I sew three of the straps all the way to about 3 inches from the top. The fourth strap I sew one side to the same 3 inches from the top. I leave the other side open and turn through that larger opening and the just have one side to sew together before sewing the top seam of each strap. Makes it so much easier to turn and also get them all to match. Love this pattern and have made many. Most of mine have pockets inside and out. Thank you!
I make and sell Kitchen Boa’s at the Farmer’s Market. A client asked me if I would make her a hippie boho bag. I told her I have never made one and wasn’t even sure I could. She had all the confidence in me that I lacked in myself. After the market I came home and started looking for patterns. Could not find one that was right. So, came to RUclips and found this video. I have cut out all of the fabric but haven’t sewn it yet. Since this was to be a crossbody bag I lengthened the straps quite a bit. I hope it still turns out. Only thing is I won’t be able to measure the strap for 10” before sewing. You have made it look so easy except the part of turning the bag right side out. Thank you
Thank you, this is a wonderful project for young beginners ( or beginners of any age ). Thank you for not sewing over pins. It literally makes me feel sick when I see people doing it. I have a variety of machines and I'd not want any broken but I sure would hate damage and an expensive repair on my sewing/embroidery combo machines. So many people think it's OK and it really isn't. I'll let you know how my granddaughter goes with her first tote :)
I’ve missed you! Your videos were key to me successfully teaching young girls to sew. Three out of my 5 students begged for sewing machines for Christmas, and got them. Your projects are so beginner friendly and fun to do. Never underestimate your influence. ❤️
Oh my gosh what a sweet comment Denise. THANK YOU for sharing that! I always have the best intentions of posting more regularly and then life just gets busy. But I plan to share more! Thank you for sharing my videos with your students :) Dana
Hi Dana, thanks for the video and the pattern! I would like to make the straps longer, I can just add a couple of inches, right? Would I still measure down 10" from the strap top? Did that make sense? 🤔
So glad you put your information on the pattern. I couldn't remember how to assemble this six months after making my first bags, but I could easily find the tutorial. Thank you.
I just love your videos! While I was pregnant I used your tutorials to make all my own burp cloths, changing pads, and crib sheets💙💙 You always make everything look so easy. Thank you!
Thank you- You make sewing so easy- And where there are difficult parts you tell us about it so when we get to do project we don't feel like we made a mistake-Mahalo, aunty anna
You are the funnest person I never met and wish I had!!!! THANK YOU!!! My kids loved this so much and now everyone needs their own for the pool... so I'm on it 😉😍😜
Thank you so much for the pattern and tutorial! I'm teaching a beginning sewing class for 9-12 year olds and needed something to match their skill level and attention span. This and the pillowcases look perfect!🧵
I was just watching your zipper pouch video. Decided to look at your other tutorials and got so giddy when I came across this one. I can't wait to try it! I love how peppy you are.
Ahhhh, I fell in love with your easy-to-follow video and started right away. I’ve always wanted a bag like this and thought it would be easy for me. However,it took me longer than imagined, and after a week passed I decided it wasn’t you or your great video that made me take so long (it’s still not done but almost) it was me! I’m an 80 year old Nana with much hand arthritis but I’m determined. I am going to enjoy using this bag I made myself! Thank you!!! ❤
Thank you so much! Now that I am retired I decided to revisit the crafts my Mom taught me. Your instruction for the reversible tote bag is so friendly and easy to follow. I decided to hand sew it (which means it is not done yet), but I have arrived at the right side out stage - yay! And end up watching the next step in your video before I move on. Thank you for being welcoming and providing great instructions.
We have missed you! I made so many of the items you share by video and they are always a great hit as gifts, etc…..keep them coming! We love your sunny upbeat attitude and it inspires us to make what you show
Hi Dana, I made this bag for my grandson to take to the bathroom, when we go camping and fishing. OMG it turned out fantastic love it. Wish I could send you picture!!!😀
Thank you for making this video. I love love all your videos, very easy to follow and I actually make the stuff. Be encouraged to make more videos and share with us! 🙂
Making this was so fast & easy! It was a chance for me to try the sturdy outdoor type fabric. It was tough pulling through (I got a blister) but it really holds up nicely! Next time I'll shorten (or lengthen?) the 10" strap sewing line to hopefully create a bigger opening to pull through. I can't wait to make more of these! My friends & family will be getting plenty for book bags, dance bags, sports bags, grocery bags....yeppers! :)
Thank you Dana for a great bag pattern 😀 I have been making lots of shorts and sweatshirts from your patterns since my grandson was small, he is now nine, still making him new shorts every year 🥰 Hope you will be making more new clothes patterns for children 💕 KimX
Thanks for this excellent tutorial! I’m new to sewing. I made this twice and it actually worked out the second time. The first time, I mistakenly connected the wrong straps. I put the straps near the side seems together instead of combining the straps over the widest part of the bag. I got everything correct the second time!!!! Thanks
I made this bag today. I absolutely love it!! Your tutorial was very easy to follow. Enjoy watching you make different things. Glad I found your channel!!
Thank you so much. I made 2 boho bags using your pattern. I added pockets on my lining pieces because I just want boho bags (with lining and pockets), no need reversible. They are beautiful and just the perfect size bags. Highly recommend. Thank you so much again xx
Thank you for the detailed videos. I especially appreciate the camera view when you sewing. I get intimidated when it comes to sewing, but I usually feel I can do it when YOU do a video. You explain so well and you approach imperfections like no big deal. When you come across an imperfection, I feel normal. I wish you had more videos. Missed seeing your videos.
Thank you ❤ I have wanted a big bag like this. A friend has one for her crochet project she takes on the go. She sewed her own bag. I think this is a good simple easy beginner friendly project. Hopefully this gives me confidence to then later add pockets & zippers to bags.❤
I just finished this bag!!! Wow super amazing and easy n it really helps that u have the best positive energy!!! Thank you keep the tutorials coming dear I love it!!!😊
I love this bag! I’ve made one for myself and two as gifts. I need one more for myself! The bag is easy to make, but there is a lot of top stitching and turning the bag is not so much fun. Overall it’s worth the effort, because the bag is so dang cute. I added an inside pocket to one of the bags. Thanks Dana!💕
I'm so glad you've been making bags! And that you added pockets! Such a great idea! I agree, the turning part is not as fun haha, but I love the moment when it all comes together! 😃 Thanks for watching Cathy! - Dana
I have made two of the eight cut out. I love them for gifts and am using some of my bigger stash cuts I have had forever‼️Thanks again so much for your video Dana.
Dana, I'm so happy that I found you and your tutorial. Yay, you made it so easy for me to follow and now I'm on my way to becoming an expert "bag lady". Thank you so so much.
I tried to follow a pattern for a bag like this in a magazine once and got so frustrated with the straps that I gave up and used the fabric for something else. Your tutorial made it so much easier to understand. Thank you and what beautiful fabric! You always make things look so fun and easy! ☺️
Thank you for this great tutorial. The instructions are so clear. I can’t wait to shop for fabric and make myself a boho bag for practice. If all goes well I may be starting some great gifts.
I made the bag and I love it! If you plan to make one, be sure to connect the correct handle strips together. I had to rip out stitches and redo the handles. Instructions are great. Just be careful and watch video closely.
So glad you came back! You look GREAT! This is the kind of bag I need to know how to make for someone as a gift. Thank you for showing how to make it. It's easier to follow your lead than to try to figure out a pattern. HAPPPY DAY!
Oh good! Yes, these are a fun style of bag to make! You can do a variation on the bag also by cutting the handles extra long and tying them in knots instead of sewing them together. You'd want to finish off the edges of the ties, but that's the basic idea :) Or add pockets, etc. I hope you have fun sewing! - Dana
Thank you so much Dana, I really really enjoyed watching you create these stunning and gorgeous Boho bags. I’m going to make one for my best friend. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags

I have been watching almost all of your videos. I need some help with material. Could you do a video on the different material and what should and shouldn’t put together. How to match pieces and what doesn’t look good??
Thanks Robin! I totally want to make another right now. My Christmas fabric collection just came out so I think I need to make a Christmas bag! :) Dana
Great tut and pattern! The armchair engineer dude in me thought there has got to be a better/easier way to get the final piece right side out. Nope!! Ha ha! Great video. Thanks. :-)
Thanks! You could use quilting cotton like I did here...or a lightweight canvas (I love the weight of IKEA fabrics if you've ever used those). You could even try the "outdoor" fabrics at Joann or other fabric shops. Or you could use lightweight nylon. Just depends on the style you're going for. Lot's of options!
Great pattern, thank you for all the ideas and how toos. Trying to get back into sewing after over 20 years. Not that I was very experienced just things we needed. Love the way you teach and the great things you make. 💜
Love this bag. I would like mine as a across the body just so it doesn't slip of my shoulder when walking. How many centimeters should I extend the straps by to have easy access to the bag while wearing it?
Awesome! I just had a Holiday fabric collection come out that would be really fun as a bag! It's called Peppermint. You can see all the prints in this shop here: www.hawthornesupplyco.com/peppermint-fabric-collection-by-dana-willard/22E7132434C7/

Great video. My favourite part is when you finish cutting the grey fabric and just toss the piece you cut off on the floor. Very relatable!

Great tut and pattern! The armchair engineer dude in me thought there has got to be a better/easier way to get the final piece right side out. Nope!! Ha ha! Great video. Thanks. :-)

Love this! Thank you. Made a bag this weekend, excited to use it.
I think I can do this after watching your tutorial! Thank you for sharing...😊
These bags are fabulous. What types of fabric would you use to make grocery sacks?
Dana you always have well explained and detailed tutorials!!!

Love this bag. I would like mine as a across the body just so it doesn't slip of my shoulder when walking. How many centimeters should I extend the straps by to have easy access to the bag while wearing it?
